Drinking coffee and eating polenta cake…..

Gosh, last night I went to bed at midnight and I didn’t wake up until 11am! I never sleep that long, but it just goes to show that I wasn’t imagining being really tired last night.
I have a thing. As long as I don’t have to be up and out to do *stuff* I can do whatever I like until I have finished my coffee. So I am currently reading Facebook, reading my bloggers and gently poking a bit of knitting I started yesterday. In about half a cup I will go and shower, get dressed and attack the blanket with a darning needle and some yarn. It’s a lovely day outside so I am hoping I can get pictures of the FO (finished object) to post later.
Back to the knitting. Since I couldn’t take the blanket to the course yesterday, and they give us an hour for lunch, I needed something easy to take with me to pass time. My treat for finishing the blanket was to start Dandelion in my handspun. I admit I started it early, BUT oooohhhh! This is SO exciting, I am knitting with yarn I MADE! Also it looks good! I’m about halfway up the back so far. Pictures of that also to follow.
I had a bit of a late start yesterday, but I got all the blanket squares sorted out so the colours were evenly spread between the remaining 6 16 square patches. I only managed to get one sewn together though. Today I am off to a flying start and already have one done and have sewn up one strip of the next one. So 5/9 complete and more to come.
Once all the patched squares are done I’ll lay them out and decide where they will end up. Then it’ll be time to decide if I should add a border.
The sewing does take a fair bit more concentration than I expected. I think it might take me a bit longer to sew the whole thing up than I thought, especially as I have a 3 day (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) *thing* next week.
As part of getting my Jobseekers Benefit I have to go visit a company employed by the Govt to help me find work. As part of that I have been invited to attend something called an Embark Workshop, there will be a group of us sharing hints and tips, looking at CVs etc. Hopefully it’ll be useful, if nothing else it will provide some impetus, it’s easy to get stuck in a rut.
There wasn’t any Coffee this week, no cake either and with me being busy and GoD Lady back at school, I don’t know when the next one will be. No Lovely Bloke this weekend or possibly next either. You can’t see it but I am making my sad face.
We have had a pretty rotten summer so far in Edinburgh. Today was not rotten. It was gorgeous and I was out most of the afternoon and evening. I am SO tired.
One of the things I did today was buy some new bamboo needles in a needle roll, on sale. A while ago I sat on one of my lovely Surina 4mm needles, so it was good to replace it AND get another 7 pairs for twice what the single pair would cost AND get a pretty roll thrown in. I had plans to do some knitting tonight but I am too tired. I am definitely too tired to look at the Gloves of Doom (stuff and things happened to stop me looking at them yesterday). I am even too tired to unpin the blocked blanket squares, and pin out the last 7.
It’s not even 10pm, and I am having trouble keeping my eyes open. Not even the coffee I drank (and I don’t do coffee in the evenings usually) is helping to perk me up. So before I make my 38539th typo, and have to redo another bit of the post, I am going to lie on the sofa for a bit with the end of Poirot and then go to bed.
The crochet squares were down to eight, I did two, then they went back up to eight…
Whilst looking through the finished squares I came across two that were teeeeeny tiny compared to all the others. I think somehow, somewhen I managed to crochet two squares with a 3mm, rather than a 4mm, hook. DO NOT ASK HOW! All I will say, in my defence, is that on 2 separate occasions whilst making this blanket I was on a LOT of prescription painkillers…
Coffee with GoD Lady and H was lovely. I had a pear and almond tart. Unfortunately, I had already eaten it before I thought about taking any pictures. I did a tiny bit of crochet and finished GoD Lady’s spinning, I was a bit crocheted out and she was a bit spun out, so it worked out nicely.
No Lovely Bloke this evening, he apparently ‘has a thing’. I’m hoping he meant a family commitment/work thing and not a strange growth or disease.
I’d be making a cacophony!
I’ve been crocheting my little fingers to the bone. Out of the 35 granny squares I had left to make, I have finished 11 and the 24 left now all have 3 rounds complete. Go me!
Now if only they were all blocked.
I only have space on my board for 14 at a time, so it’s going to take a while, and they take a day to dry and set properly. There are still 91/144 to be blocked, I reckon if I do a batch every day I can get them done in a week., however with other stuff going on realistically I’m looking at 2 weeks.
In other news I ordered 100 pod/bags for my coffee maker yesterday. Much as I’d prefer a proper espresso maker, I did kill 2 of them in less than 4 years. The first one, was on sale, it had tendency to leak water all over the bunker (counter), eventually it got really bad so I dumped it. I spent double the money on the next one (170 pounds (no pound sign on this netbook)). The gasket in the boiling chamber went. More water everywhere (and not a drop of coffee to drink). I do miss the milk steamer. I struggled along with my trusty French press and a stovetop espresso maker, and decided expensive coffee machines were not for me. My mum had a Douwe Egberts Senseo coffee maker, she’d had it for years, so I decided it was probably the most indestructible coffee maker in the universe and added it to my Amazon Wishlist, discussing it all with the Lovely Bloke. With no job, I planned to spend any Christmas and birthday money on one (my birthday is in January so not long to wait if I didn’t have enough from Christmas), but Lovely Blokes are lovely and he bought me one as part of my Christmas. The ‘official’ pods are fairly expensive, but Lidl (cheap euro supermarket) do their own (Good Housekeeping Award winning) make, so I spend about the same on those that I did on actual coffee, bonus!
So far I haven’t managed to break it.
Today is cake, craft, and coffee day with GoD Lady (plus a Sheep and H this week). Yes a Sheep. We have a friend who is secretly a sheep in a people suit. There are clues to his real identity, but they are subtle and you’d never think he was really a sheep if you walked past him in the street.
I have no idea what to take with me to do. I’ve run out of blocked blanket squares after doing 2×16 panels. and it’s too late to block more, so I can’t do that. There are too many little balls of yarn (and big ones) to make crocheting more squares and option, so I cant do that.
I could do the other shrug sleeve, but I don’t want to, plus I’d actually have to pay attention. So, no to that.
Gloves of Doom? OMG WTSF, NO! I need DAYS to look at that before I attempt it.
I want to have enough yarn spun, and to reckeck all the wpi, before I start Dandelion…
I have plying to do but I can’t take that with me as it’s really not so portable.
I guess that leaves a spindle and some spinning… but Merino or Shetland?
See this is where it’d be really handy to have.. I dunno.. something small like… A SOCK on the needles for something easy to take with me.
