Another cake..

image

I know this looks very much like the last cake, but it’s very different, even down to the method.
This is this recipe, except I made it with lemons. It is right on the border of being too lemony, but it works fine for me.

These are all James Martin recipes. We pick a different chef every month then those that want to, go mad cooking.

An amazing job.

Baking biscuits

New oven and a new recipe might not work out being my best idea…

But these look interesting. Oh and add into the above, using gluten free flour…

Glutton for punishment. Obviously!

Look out for photos later….

So, I baked

Some home made Bourbon biscuits.

They looked and tasted amazingly good, and I will definitely be making more of these.

Lentil & Sausage Stew

My mum used to make something like this, I don’t have a recipe so today I made one up. It was very tasty, possibly a little salty. It’s as easy to measure the lentils in the jug as you need 5x the quantity of liquid to cook them in.

Here’s what I did

Ingredients

  • 1/4 pint of green lentils
  • 1/2 pint chicken stock (or vegetable)
  • 3/4 pint ham stock
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tblsp tomato purée
  • 1 tin chopped tomatoes
  • 1 packet of kabanos (smoked pork sausage)
  • 1tsp sugar
  • black pepper
  • a little oil

Method

Rinse lentils thoroughly in cold water. Heat the oil gently in the pan and add the tomato purée and the sugar, cook lightly stirring until the sugars in the paste start to caramelise add the garlic. Add the rinsed lentils and stock and bring to the boil. Boil for 10 minutes then reduce the heat to a simmer, add the tinned tomato and season with pepper – the stock is salty enough so you won’t need to add salt. Simmer for at least 35 minutes until the lentils are tender. Slice the sausage and add to the pot. Add water if needed – it should be wet but not soupy. I cook for a further 15 minutes, heating the sausage and letting the flavours develop.

I had it with rice, but crusty bread would do.

Hubble Bubble, Boils are Trouble

Yes, I have a boil, it’s just at the top of my arm at my oxter (remember our Scots lesson? No? Then armpit). I have applied a dressing with Magnesium Sulphate Paste and hope that’ll sort it out, it’s not horrendously sore, but it’s annoying.

Other than suppurating, today I have managed to finish spinning half of the Suffolk fibre, I’ve started plying the latest 2 merino singles, and made chicken stock. It’s just been strained and I’m reducing it down so I can freeze it.

Yet again I have forgotten to take anything out of the freezer to eat this evening. I am contemplating if I should pop to the shop, or just have egg and chips (fries if you are from ‘Mericaland), nice a quick and no faffing.

A Break for Blogging and Crumble.

I’m having a wee sit down, not that I’ve done much really today, but I forgot to eat and I’m starving. I am being naughty and having some pudding. I made apricot and nectarine crumble last night so I’m warming some up to have with some coffee.

I have a list of things to get on with today. So far I’ve had a look at GoD Lady’s socks and emailed her my findings, and started plying some of the merino singles. Once that’s done I shall endeavour to work out where I am on the Gloves of Doom (and maybe do some work on them if I’m not at the grafting point). I also need to measure the Green/Blue/Yellow yarn, which is now dry, then I may wind the merino to a skein and  wash  and set it.

Must remember to eat again later, and not just pudding.
