In Your Face Gloves of Doom!

Well rather flower from Gloves of Doom. GoD Lady got stuck in traffic, so I was finished dupe stitching the flower before she arrived…. Unfortunately I had forgotten to take the pattern, so it wasn’t grafted on *doh*.

I am caffeinated, and caked (Apricot and almond tart – below), and have done a bit of spinning. I feel productive, kind of.

I have some two at a time socks from GoD Lady to look at and to try to work out where she is in the pattern. I may need more brain that I currently have access to, so they will have to wait until I feel cleverer. Lovely Bloke is working all this weekend so I have bonus crafty time. I’m up to 513 yards of worstedish (9wpi) actual spun merino yarn so far. I haven’t finished the first bag quite yet,  although it’s getting close. It will be interesting to see how much of this I end up with. Luckily, if I do need more  to make a particular garment, as it’s undyed it’s not like I have to worry about dye batches and I can just get and make more.

Totally can’t work out if that last sentence makes sense, have run out of brain, please send more…

Pre-post Post….

Gah, well I was tired on Wednesday, but yesterday I just felt full on awful. I  fell asleep on the sofa and all sorts. This means the flower from the Gloves of Doom didn’t get finished. Today I still feel a bit pants, but I do feel a lot better than I did, so Operation Coffee, Cake and Knitting will still go ahead, and I am taking the flower with me to finish off – this means I will have mostly kept my promise.

Currently have a small but fat black cat perched on my hip trying to stick her cold wet nose into my armpit, or oxter as we say here in Scotland. I should go give her some attention.

Omnomnom, or Nomcat for short.

There’s a title in my head somewhere

I am tired today, I even had to go for a nap, and I am still a very yawny-faced Raa.

Yesterday I was mostly domestic, in a cleaning and cooking kind of way, but I did find time to sort out the rescue knitting for GoD Lady. The jumper now has armholes, the shoulders are joined and I also picked up all the stitches for the hood and knit in all the wraps, so she’s good to have at it on Friday. Later on I did pick up my spindle but really I just couldn’t find my rhythm and I kept breaking the fibre so I set it aside and spent time with my Lovely Bloke.

Today I had to play a bit of catch up. The dreaded flower from the Gloves of Doom was nagging me – it needs done by Friday so I cut a piece of yarn and duplicated stitches until it ran out, I have half a petal left to do tomorrow. I also decided to ply the GreenBlueYellow single. When I was spinning the last bit I didn’t really think there was enough to warrant making 2 singles so I decided to make one then Andean ply it. Minor trouble, it was really a bit too much, so kept snagging and breaking so there are, unfortunately, a lot of joins  (insert sad face), but it’s done, and tomorrow I may well skein and wash it to set it.  Talking of skeining and washing, I did an experiment.

The other day I was pondering on whether plying fixed everything, so I took a left over piece of a single and set it. It was twisted for plying so it was more twisted than I’d have made it if I had intended to keep it single, but it turned out pretty much OK. I dried it without weighting and it hangs almost straight – there’s a very, very slight drift to the right in the skein, so I all in all I’m pretty happy with my twist.

Today more fibre arrived, I have another 400g of undyed merino from Texere, that should keep me occupied for a wee while at least. I am off to see if there’s a terrible film on I can watch. Be good.

Promises and how to (kind of) keep them

A few weeks ago you will remember I posted about how I almost went blind duplicate stitching the flowers on the Gloves of Doom, I still wince. Most people would have given up at that point I feel. These, though, are special and promises had been made. You will also remember that I usually meet the Gloves of Doom Lady (the person for whom I am enduring all the suffering and who will, eventually, be the owner of the gloves) on Fridays, but that we haven’t met on Fridays for a while. The promises that were made were made on a Friday, with the full expectation that Fridays would remain our day of cake.. I mean day of knitting. We both made knitting promises; GoD Lady promised that in 2 Friday’s time she would have knitted the back of her jumper, and I promised I would have a flower duped and ready to be grafted to a wrist. Of course the intention was that that would be 2 weeks from the day we made the promises, but the things and the stuff happened and there weren’t Fridays so the promises were altered, “No”, we said, “I haven’t finished, but it’s not Friday yet, it will need to be next Friday”, but Friday never came. My flowers have languished in a bag, until today. Today is sunny.

I did think that the universe was having a bit of a laugh though. Sun was streaming in though the window, so I got up and dug out the GoD bag and plopped it on the table beside the chair in the window, the sun dimmed for a second. I went to the loo the sun brightened. I came back and sat down, the sun went behind a cloud, I got up and turned to look out of the window, the sun came out, I sat down… I ignored the sun, it stayed out and I have done most of one more petal.

So, promises can still be kept, NEXT Friday.

*excuse horribly blurry picture, I REALLY need to find the camera cable so I don’t have to use my phone.
